Merseyside Police Takes Action Against Business Crime

As part of the Safer Business Action Days, Merseyside Police have taken a proactive approach to reduce retail crime. In conjunction with other crime reduction initiatives such as visible and plain-clothed operations, 100 SelectaDNA Tagging & Defence Sprays have been distributed to retailers in Merseyside.

The SelectaDNA Tagging & Defence Sprays are a compact offender marking spray used to deter and prevent personal attack and criminal behaviour. The solution is easily identifiable under UV light, and irrefutably links criminals with crimes using unique synthetic DNA.

The deployment of SelectaDNA Defence Sprays has also been encouraged in a document released by the Association of Police and Crime Commissioners, where Emily Spurrell, Merseyside Police & Crime Commissioner said that "Funds are being used to drive the safety of retailers and shopkeepers by providing SelectaDNA Defence Spray kits. These kits can be used by security guards to mark potential offenders to deter and prevent attacks and criminal behaviour.

"The kits are carried in a brightly coloured holder to act as a visual deterrent and signs are posted across stores to prevent incidents from ever taking place."
